What are Ordinals?

What are Ordinals?

Ordinals offer a unique way to create digital assets directly on the Bitcoin blockchain. Unlike traditional NFTs, typically minted on platforms like Ethereum or Solana, Ordinals leverage Bitcoin’s inherent structure to inscribe data onto individual satoshis (the smallest unit of Bitcoin). These satoshis are inscribed with content—such as images or text—transforming them into distinctive digital artifacts stored on the Bitcoin blockchain. These artifacts can be held in Bitcoin wallets and transferred using Bitcoin transactions. Ordinals are art on Bitcoin: as durable, immutable, secure, and decentralized as the currency itself.

How They Work:
• Ordinals inscribe data—such as text, images, or even smart contracts—on specific satoshis using Bitcoin’s Taproot upgrade.
• This method does not require separate tokens or sidechains; instead, it fully operates within Bitcoin’s existing framework.
• The inscribed satoshis carry unique data, making them similar to NFTs in their individuality and ability to represent ownership.

Why Ordinals Matter for Livity:
Immutable and Decentralized: Since Bitcoin is the most decentralized and secure blockchain, Ordinals offer unparalleled permanence for digital assets.
New Opportunities for Impact: Livity Ordinals intend to serve as permanent, transparent records of contributions to WASH initiatives, directly tying each artifact to specific projects.
Expanding Reach: Publishing Ordinals enables Livity to tap into Bitcoin’s global community, broadening its network of supporters.

Livity’s Vision for Ordinals:

Ordinals are used to document the legacy of WASH initiatives, commemorate milestones, or fund new projects. For instance, a Livity Ordinal may be designed to permanently record the impact of a funded project while serving as a digital badge of support for contributors.
